We have once again been reminded that Limerick owns the May Bank Holiday Weekend.
Riverfest 2025 was a resounding success and for that, I want to extend my deepest thanks to the huge number of people that made the weekend happen.
The dedication of the team at Limerick City and County Council makes the event possible every year, and they have outdone themselves again. Our colleagues in the Tourism and Marketing & Communications departments in particular have put in countless hours to ensure Riverfest has again outdone itself – my thanks to them all.
A special thanks to the often unsung heroes who ensured our city streets were clean, usually before we wake and after we go to sleep - and in record time too! I’m sure everyone who was in the city this weekend will echo my sentiments.
To our emergency services and, in particular, An Garda Síochána – thank you for keeping us safe and for keeping things running smoothly for everyone on our streets. Your presence, as always, is reassuring and your work and dedication is unmatched.
To the organisers of all of the events, particularly the Great Limerick Run and its sponsors, Regeneron, for delivering on another excellent spectacle.
Thank you to the people of Limerick and those who travelled from across the country – and beyond – to be a part of Riverfest. The different kind of energy you brought to the city centre, and indeed our waterfront, as you do every year, was electric.
Riverfest 2025 has been a statement about the future we’re building for Limerick – vibrant, inclusive and outward looking, and a welcome boost to our city centre retailers. This weekend showed what’s possible when we believe in Limerick and others follow.
Let’s carry this energy forward, not just for the May Bank Holiday, but for every day – and continue to make Limerick an even better place to live, work and visit.
Limerick is where the action is.
