Limerick City and County Council announces the launch of Twilight Thursdays, a new initiative aimed at enhancing the night-time economy in Limerick city.

Limerick city is one of nine locations selected to participate in the national Night Time Economy pilot programme, which is supported and funded by the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media, designed to stimulate night-time economy activity through the development of enhanced collaborative structures supported by a Night-Time Economy Advisor.

Starting this May, Twilight Thursdays will take place on the last Thursday of every month, bringing together cultural events, live entertainment, and late-night business openings to create a dynamic and welcoming atmosphere for all.

Twilight Thursdays will offer a unique blend of activities every month. This initiative promises to transform Limerick into a thriving night-time destination, providing both locals and visitors with memorable experiences.

Call for Expressions of Interest:

Participation from local businesses will be key to the success of Twilight Thursdays. Limerick City and County Council invite businesses to run events on these nights that will be promoted as part of our Twilight Thursday programme. Additionally, the Council encourages businesses to consider remaining open later on these nights.

Benefits for Participating Businesses:

  • Benefit from increased footfall and potential sales opportunities.
  • Engage new and returning customers in a lively evening setting.
  • Collaborate with the community to strengthen Limerick’s reputation as a thriving night-time destination.

Limerick City and County Council, along with the Night Time Economy Advisor, will actively promote this initiative to ensure maximum visibility for participating businesses. The Night Time Economy project will fund the animation of the city centre and specific events on key dates, ensuring quality performances and activities that are accessible and free to the public. We are also working closely with An Garda Síochána to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all attendees.

Mayor of Limerick, John Moran is looking forward to the inaugural event, saying:

"We’re asking for people to make new plans and step out for one evening a month. It is our chance to get behind a focused pilot to help Limerick come alive in the evenings. Twilight Thursdays is a fantastic opportunity for Limerick to showcase its vibrant culture and thriving night-time economy. This initiative is just one part of our comprehensive action plan to improve Limerick City's night-time offerings. We are excited to see our city come alive with energy and enthusiasm every month."

Cathaoirleach of the Metropolitan District of Limerick, Cllr. Kieran O'Hanlon added:

"Limerick City is fortunate to be part of the national pilot programme for the Night Time Economy and I’m delighted to see this initiative being rolled out. I look forward to seeing further actions taken to create a more vibrant and active city after normal business closing times, enhancing the overall experience for residents and visitors alike."

Limerick City and County Council’s Night Time Economy Advisor, Craig Power is encouraging local participation, saying:

"Twilight Thursdays will not only boost our local economy but also enhance the social and cultural fabric of Limerick.
